Dr Madeleine Gustavsson was recently invited on to the Fathom podcast to talk about her research on women in fisheries. Madeleine explained how women’s roles in the fishing sector are often invisible even though the rhythms of fishing might shape their lives.

This episode also featured fascinating interviews, first up is Ashley Mullenger, a female fisherman in Wells-next-the-Sea with an enthusiastic account of her fishing days out at sea. Jamie O’Connor, a fifth-generation salmon fisherwoman in Alaska also tells us how she is deeply connected to the sea, and the legacy of her great grandmothers’ fishing knowledge.
