Call for Papers
This year’s IFM Annual Conference will be hosted by the Southwest Branch and will be held in the wonderful city of Bristol.
In an era of accelerating environmental change and growing pressures on aquatic ecosystems, this conference will delve into the challenges facing freshwater, transitional, and marine environments. We will explore how habitat connectivity, ecological resilience, and multi-sector engagement can support thriving aquatic ecosystems and sustainable fisheries into the future whilst offering a comprehensive platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
The conference will feature speakers from the UK, Ireland and beyond for two days of presentations, posters, and networking, including the Annual Dinner & Awards.
The organising committee would welcome submissions under the following subject areas:
Habitats under pressure
Habitat engineering
Monitoring, mapping and citizen science
Policy, governance and practice
Policy, engagement & funding
Habitat restoration and creation
Reintroductions
Fish passage
Urban Oasis: Fish-friendly design in cities and industrial landscapes
Connectivity & infrastructure/constructing corridors: Coastal and riverine connectivity projects
All abstracts should include the following information:
Title of the paper,
Authors’ full names with presenter’s name highlighted,
Affiliation and country of origin for each author and co-author,
Email address of the presenting author,
100 – 200 word abstract on the paper’s content,
Preference for an oral or poster presentation.
The Steering Group will review all submissions and will aim to ensure a good balance of topics and geographic areas. If requests for oral presentations are oversubscribed a poster presentation may be offered instead.
All submissions and enquiries should be sent directly to the conference administrator at info@ifm.org.uk.
No presenting author should submit more than one oral presentation request but may submit multiple poster presentation requests.
Presenters will be required to register for the conference
Closing date for submissions – 4th August 2025

We encourage participation from fishery managers, practitioners, academics, students, conservationists, policymakers, and anyone with a keen interest in fish, fisheries and the aquatic environment.
CPD points are available for attendance at this event.
