Community Ambassadors
UK Women in Fisheries has some funding to support projects across all nations of the UK. We’re keen to support women that want to get involved with UKWIF activities, and bring the UKWIF mission and values to their region.
We have £5000 per region, and this can be used to:
Represent UK WIF in regional spaces and local events (like crab festivals or careers days)
Host your own community networking event
Engage with and support women working across fisheries
Bring regional perspectives into UK WIF’s work
Help UKWIF reach places and communities we are not currently present in
Pay women in roles that usually rely on unpaid labour
If you’d like to discuss becoming a UK WIF Regional Representative, please chat with Stephanie wifcoordinator@gmail.com
There is no ongoing commitment to being a Community Ambassador and no fixed role description - participation is based on interest, availability, and opportunity. Time and some expenses are covered, and contributions may be one-off or short-term.
All activity should align with UKWIF’s mission and values, and aims to make participation in fisheries policy, advocacy and community spaces more accessible for women in seafood spaces.
If you want to organise your own event, or if there’s an event happening near you that you feel UKWIF should have a presence at - and you’re a member of UKWIF - then get in touch.
We’ll support Community Ambassadors through regular team calls, and send you lots of useful material like posters, leaflets, stickers and even pin badges.

FAQs
The Community Ambassador funding is intended to support women in Scotland, NI, Wales, and England to engage with, represent, and extend the work of UKWIF in-person (or virtually) within their region.
We have/need funding for this because:
WIF members are underrepresented in many parts of the industry
Regional knowledge, local trust, and lived experience are essential to meaningful engagement with members.
Participation should never rely on unpaid labour.

Any UK WIF member can become a Community Ambassador. If you align with our mission and values, have an idea for engagement, and want to get involved - and be paid - then get in touch!
Unfortunately, UKWIF directors can not be paid as Community Ambassadors.
-
No. Community Ambassadors are not employees.
It’s a flexible, non-hierarchical role designed around contribution - whether that’s a one-off event or something more regular.
-
There’s no fixed commitment. You can support one project, one event, or engage more regularly - whatever you’d like.
Unfortunately, due to very limited funds, we can’t guarantee funding for every project/event/opportunity.
-
Yes! We have (very limited) funding to ensure that anyone working with UKWIF does not work for free!
Where activity is agreed in advance and aligned with UK WIF’s mission and values, your time will be covered on a flat hourly rate as well as reasonable expenses.
We pay £20 per hour for up to 5 hours, or a day rate of £100.
We’ll let you know about invoices and expenses when the project is approved.
-
You might attend meetings as a WIF ambassador, or host events with your WIF hat on!
We’re open to ambassadors participating in any activity that supports women and signposts properly. You’ll be helping recruit and retain women into the seafood industry, and living by our WIF values of Passion, Empowerment and Equality.
If you have an idea - please reach out!

We all start somewhere - talking to strangers, or to an audience is likely a large part of the role - but the UKWIF team, including the directors, other ambassadors and even WIF members are here to support you.
As a Community Ambassador you’ll be invited to additional training hosted by the WIF team, and we’ll be here to support you the whole way!
-
No. There’s no limit. We welcome the multitude of diverse voices that make up our members and celebrate that there are a lot of us, all doing different jobs wonderfully.
Whilst we have very limited funding, and may not be able to offer funding to all, we support and celebrate all Community Ambassadors however we can.
-
We have a small amount of money to spend and want to use it working at a local and regional level.
We know that many members live and work in very rural or isolated regions - and the WIF team is currently made up of only one full time, and one part time employee.
We also want to use the passion in our membership and give an opportunity to women who know how best to access and make an impact in their communities.
Community Ambassadors are an embodiment of our values - Passion, Empowerment, Equality.
