Emotional Regulation in Action - Beam Training

Strong emotions are a normal response to pressure, uncertainty, conflict and risk. Emotional regulation is not about suppressing those emotions or pretending everything is fine. It is about recognising what is happening, creating enough space to think clearly and choosing a response that supports the outcome we need. This practical session explores the neuroscience behind emotional reactions and introduces simple tools to help you to communicate more effectively, manage difficult moments and remain heard when situations become challenging.

Overview

  • Understanding Emotional Regulation.

  • Understanding why strong emotions can trigger automatic reactions and affect judgement, communication and behaviour.

  • Recognising Personal Triggers – Identifying the situations, thoughts and physical warning signs that signal an emotional response is building.

  • Checking the Story – Exploring how assumptions, interpretations and past experiences can intensify emotions and influence how we respond.

  • Creating the Response Gap.

  • Communicating Under Pressure – Applying emotional regulation to disagreement, difficult conversations, safety concerns and challenging situations at work and home.

Outcomes
